Joe Federico
Co-Founder & Director
For this year's end-of-year campaign, we're excited to feature Joe Federico, the co-founder and Director of Stray Paws Animal Haven. After more than two decades as a restaurant owner, Joe left the industry to pursue his deep-rooted passion for animal welfare.
When Joe moved to Southern California, he was struck by the overwhelming number of stray and feral cats in his neighborhood. His search for a solution to their suffering and the growing neighborhood cat population led him to volunteer full-time with FixNation, where he dedicated eight years to their mission.
Determined to expand support for these animals, Joe founded Stray Paws Animal Haven in 2018, based in Los Angeles, California. With a focus on reducing the stray animal population, the organization specializes in TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return), medical rehabilitation, transport, networking, and education.
Those of us at Stray Paws can’t speak highly enough about Joe’s kind and compassionate spirit. His consistent leadership, patience, and love for animals are the foundation that keeps us going. Joe’s extensive experience in TNR and trapping has built the groundwork for everything we do here. There’s never a dull day with him – whether he’s checking in cats at events, driving the Spay Shuttle on weekends, or coordinating our team with dedication and humor.
Joe's tireless work has propelled Stray Paws from its early days of assembling the Spay Shuttle to becoming a trusted, impactful organization in our community. Working closely with team members like Yobany, Monique, Dr. Sandoval, and the entire Stray Paws family, Joe's leadership, kindness, and steady presence have made a remarkable difference. We’re endlessly grateful for all he does, and we truly wish there were more people like Joe in the world – so that even more cats can lead healthier, happier lives.
Join us in honoring Joe and supporting Stray Paws Animal Haven as we continue to make a difference, one paw at a time.
